doc.cheap – passport and ID OCR MCP Server
Read passports, ID cards and driver's licences into structured JSON from any MCP client.
About
An MCP server for identity-document recognition. scan_document takes an image (base64, a public https URL, or a file inside one directory you allow) and returns the holder, the document, every field with a confidence band, and the MRZ with its check-digit verdict, as structured content plus a one-line summary. check_balance reads remaining credits; search_docs searches the bundled API docs offline. Four prompts and every docs page as a resource are included. File paths are off until you set DOC_CHEAP_IMAGE_ROOT; URLs must be public https, with every redirect re-checked. With no key it uses the public sandbox key (10 free recognised documents per IP); with your own key, Free – 100 documents every month, then $0.01 per recognised document, and failed scans are free.
Two ways to connect: the hosted Streamable HTTP endpoint https://mcp.doc.cheap/mcp (no install, no login, API key optional; it takes base64 or a URL, not file paths), or locally over stdio with npx -y @doc-cheap/mcp (Node 20+).
